My hope is built...

Today one of Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop prompts is to write a poem about hope. When I read this the words from a favorite hymn came to mind. I don't know if you're aware of this, but it's almost impossible to write a poem when you have a song stuck in your head.

And so, I give you...

My Hope is Built
Words: Ed?ward Mote, cir?ca 1834; first ap?peared in Mote’s Hymns of Praise, 1836

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

  1. Smiling! As soon as I started reading I started to hum...and then sing! Thanks for taking me back to the church I grew up in, standing next to my mom and dad, singing my heart out.
    Great reminder on who is REALLY our hope!
